Karen Flesch (nee Tomlinson): ‘Grackle Pop’ Oil Painting Print

$35.00$50.00

This artwork was inspired by the bold style of pop art and the unique Greater Antillean Grackle. The Greater Antillean Grackle is a striking black bird found on Grand Cayman and Little Cayman. Although once present on Cayman Brac, the species has not been recorded there since 1911. Two distinct subspecies are found in the Cayman Islands: one endemic to Grand Cayman, and the other is endemic to Little Cayman. These subspecies are unique to their respective islands and are not found anywhere else in the world. Greater Antillean Grackles prefer coastal environments and mangrove habitats. ⠀ Locally known as “Ching-chings”, these birds are named for their distinctive, metallic-sounding call. Highly social and inquisitive, Ching chings are often bold around humans—especially when food is nearby. They are also known for their aggressive nest defense and will readily confront much larger intruders, including people! ⠀ Prints of original oil paintings by local artist Karen Flesch (née Tomlinson). Each print measures roughly 12 x 12" and is available framed or un-framed.
